Christy Kelly-Bentgen

Christy Kelly-Bentgen received a BFA in Painting from St. Mary's Notre Dame, followed by graduate work at the University of Notre Dame and a BA in Art Education from University of Detroit, Mercy. Having traveled and studied in Mexico, Italy, and Egypt, she brings a unique cross-cultural perspective to her work. She has continued her studies through the Split Rock Arts Program, University Of Minnesota, and courses and workshops in fine arts, art history and education.

Christy has worked as an artist and educator in both public and private schools in Michigan, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Wisconsin. Ms. Kelly-Bentgen has also worked as an art director, run her own pottery business, and managed an art gallery. Her mixed-media work has been featured in numerous art fairs, group shows, and galleries in the Boston area and the Midwest.

In 2001, she received a grant to produce a body of work documenting the experience of Living with Breast Cancer, exhibited at the University of Wisconsin, Marinette Art Gallery. A number of these works were also featured at The Appleton Art Center in Altered Images Expressions of Hope, and as the centerpiece for the Well Women Retreat in Green Bay, Wisconsin. In spring 2006, Living with Breast Cancer was exhibited at the University of Michigan Hospital's Voices Gallery.

Since returning to Michigan, Christy has taught classes at Chelsea Center for the Arts, the Ann Arbor Art Center and UMMA. In addition she has been involved in a variety of public art and educational projects including the Ann Arbor Art Center's Off the Wall Gallery, the Feminist Art Project and the Women's Caucus for Art.

Other interests include acting, writing, cooking and enjoying the outdoors hiking and skiing. This year she is proud to be participating in the University of Michigan Museum of Art Docent Training Program.
