Artist Profile

Deborah Ash

Mediums: Colored Pencil

Deborah Rebeck Ash had to choose between art and music in seventh grade, and it was band. Earning her doctorate in flute performance at the University of Michigan, she always kept her colored pencils handy while on vacation. After her children went off to college, she began drawing under the tutelage of Mary Bachman.

Subjects are scenes from world travels with the International Flute Orchestra, and her grandfather's (Stephen A. Rebeck, Sr.) photos of models from his sculptor's studio in the early 1900s.

Also a member of the Colored Pencil Addicts, her work has been shown at the Ann Arbor City Club and the Two Twelve Art Center in Saline, MI. Deborah has also published a book of poetry, "Riding Past Grief," illustrated by her daughter, Betsy Finn.
