Artist Profile

Jayna Eckler

Mediums: Watercolor, Oil, Mixed Media Paintings, Encaustic

Jayna comes to this pursuit later than most. Painting is her passion. Jayna does not have a classical or highly regarded background, having been born in 1933 in Sparks, Oklahoma to a poor hardworking farming family. Exposure to creativity was provided by her mother who was a painter, an aunt who was a milliner and her grandmother, a dressmaker. She doesn't remember ever not having a love of color, texture, and form.

Jayna's education has been hit and miss. Following high school, she completed a 2 year course at the Jackson Design School in North Carolina.

After a number of years spent raising her children and working in a variety of jobs, she studied and taught interior design. Eventually, Jayna owned and operated her own design business for a number of years.

For a change of pace, Jayna moved into the real estate business which she still pursues on a part time basis.

In recent years, Jayna has studied with a variety of local, and nationally known artists and has attended classes at the Bella Artes art school in San Miguel de Allenda, Mexico.

Jayna has exhibited and sold her work locally at the Chelsea, Michigan Artistica summer fair and her work can currently be found at Gallery 643 in Jackson.
