Artist Profile

Judith Mason-Macomber

Mediums: Photography, Pencil and Graphite, Pastel, Painting, Mixed Media Paintings, Ink, Fiber, Drawing

Judith Mason-Macomber was born in Chicago and grew up in Evanston, Illinois. She prepared herself to paint, at age twelve, by commandeering one of her mother's bedsheets, crayoning a design of fish around the bottom hem and making a dirndl skirt. (Her friends thought this was great. Her mother did not.)

At the Institute of Design of the Illinois Institute of Technology she studied with Aaron Siskind, Harry Callahan and Richard Koppe, at the Art Institute of Chicago, and with Harry Bouris. She worked in advertising for eighteen years to support three daughters. In 1996 she moved to Oregon to paint mountains (bundled with sky and water). While there, she was on the Boards of Directors of the Emerald Art Center, Springfield, and the New Zone Gallery, Eugene. She was on the Springfield Arts Commission and represented at galleries in Coos Bay, Coburg, Eugene, Reedsport and Springfield, all in Oregon. She has exhibited extensively in shows all over the country and has works in many corporate and private collections.

Mason-Macomber moved to Ann Arbor in 2009. She works in acrylic, pastel, pen/ink, oil and fiber/mixed. She continues to paint creatures, including people and some fish, but not (usually) on her clothes.
