Artist Profile

Sandra Shelly

Mediums: Mixed Media/Collage, Jewelry, Assemblage

Sandra works in mixed media including altered books, assemblage and jewelry. Her pieces are created from elements found in yard sales, recycling bins, and nature, which are then transformed by sanding, painting and reconfiguring. She is exploring the beauty found by taking an otherwise ordinary item, making it into something different and nicer, yet keeping the "memory" of the original. Each piece is full of detail and reveals a story to the viewer.

Juried exhibitions include: Madonna University, Forum Gallery at Cranbrook, Grosse Pointe Art Center, Oakland Community College, Riverside Arts Center and Detroit Artist Market.

Ms. Shelly studied fine arts at Michigan State University. Additional studies have included design, calligraphy and book arts with well-known artists such as Lothar Hoffman and Susan Skarsgard. She is a member of the Women's Caucus for Art, Detroit Artist Market and the AAWA.
