1100 N. Main St., Ann Arbor, MI 48104

You’re invited! Please join us for the Annual Meeting and potluck luncheon on Sunday, May 20, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the NEW Center’s conference room overlooking the beautiful Huron River. Please bring a dish to share, and we’ll provide drinks and table settings. It’s our last social event of the season, so we hope you’ll come and enjoy a fun get together with your fellow artists. At the request of our members, we’ve changed the business portion of the meeting to allow more time for socializing this year. Questions? Please contact Paula Doe at pcdoe@yahoo.com or 734-485-7926, or Lisa Belanger at sbelanger@juno.com or 734-663-3115. Hope to see you there!

Chris Hyndman, Eastern Michigan University Art Professor, demonstrated acrylic painting, masking, and image transfer techniques to a crowd of about 36 people at the Riverside Art Gallery.

Chris had a very easy going speaking style. He brought many types of art materials and explained their use. He provided us with a handout, “Masking and Image Transfer Techniques for Acrylic Painting.” The handout contains information about where Chris obtains these hard to find materials.

Katie presented to a packed house! She definitely drew a crowd to hear about her art journey, background, and her latest work, a 14 painting commission for Huron Hills Church of the Stations of the Cross. Her PowerPoint presentation and speaking style was very informative and entertaining. She explained the development of her painting style, and talked about subjects and colors that attract her. She spoke about how she likes to add a bit of irreverence to some of her paintings. Hearing her speak about her work made her paintings all the more endearing. She went through each of the Stations of the Cross paintings, and spoke about her thought process in creating each piece.

March Artist Demonstration Review: Julia Harding, AAWA member

Julia presented to about 25 people at the Ann Arbor Senior Center facility. She gave a PowerPoint presentation, and brought in several of her watercolor paintings to demonstrate techniques and the effects different papers can have on an artist’s work. She also brought in a “failed” sunflower painting and explained what she had learned from it, and that she had gone on to create another much more successful painting of the subject. The newer painting was so successful that it won 1st place in an AAWA juried exhibit, and someone liked it so much they purchased it! She brought in several of her artist sketch books to demonstrate her pre-work, and color palettes. Everyone seemed to enjoy the demonstration.
