2018 AAWA WORKSHOPS:

 

Ceramic Trays with Zentangle Sgrafito Designs Workshop

Time:  November 3, 2018 @ 10am – 3pm  (with lunch break at noon)

Workshop participants will create a press molded slab tray as well as a smaller soap dish. Steps will include creating a template for the shape of the tray, rolling and cutting out clay slabs, using a bisque forming plate, applying under-glaze and finally adding a sgraffito design based off of Zentangle drawings.

The morning session will include forming and glazing the trays as well as exploring the art of Zentangle. There will be an hour break for lunch. During the afternoon session, the sgraffito technique will be demonstrated and participants will have the chance to sgraffito their trays.

The trays will be fired and ready to be picked up approximately 1-2 week’s after the workshop. Materials needed are included in the workshop fee.

Prep Your Art Images Workshop

Do you upload your images to the web? Do you make prints or cards? Or maybe you have hopes of being featured in an art magazine at some point in your art career? And what about art competitions? You enter them, right? Or want to?

All the above situations have different image requirements. Do you know what they are and how to achieve them? This hands-on workshop will take you through all the image requirements you’ll need throughout your art career.

• Simple rules for taking better images of artwork
• Proper image resizing rules for every situation
• How to protect your art images and why you must
• Photo Editors: what you need and why

Bring with you: A laptop loaded with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements on it. Or, one of these free top-notch Photoshop alternatives for Mac or Windows: Gimp (https://www.gimp.org/) or Krita (https://krita.org/en/homepage/)

EMU Non-Instructed Life Drawing/Painting – Life drawing is an exercise that benefits all creative mediums, and this group hires a model for non-instructed sessions each week. There’s a $5 drop-in fee, and the group meets every Saturday from 10am – 1pm at Eastern Michigan University in the Sherzer Building, Room 201.

Plein Air Painting Sessions– AAWA artists meet monthly to paint/draw outdoors in various local beauty spots. Sessions normally begin at 10am and end when you’re done. Bring lunch, art materials, and whatever the weather calls for. Come paint/draw, have lunch, have fun, and follow this great art tradition. Portrait Studio Sessions – Portraiture presents the greatest challenge to the artist… and offers the most satisfaction. This group meets weekly at the Northfield Senior Center on Main Street in Whitmore Lake on Mondays from 1:00pm to 3:30pm for clothed figure drawing/painting. $6 fee.
